From Bestival to Benicàssim and Burning Man, festival season is in full swing. Whether you're an urban raver, stargazer or wellness fanatic, don't leave home without using these tried-and-tested tips. Your festival survival guide right this way…
Lightweight, waterproof layers that won't cling to your skin after hours of crowd-surfing and head-bopping to guitars. You can't go wrong with the on-trend glossy mac.
Take a backpack - anything on wheels is a no-no, unless you want mud everywhere - or a leather-trimmed duffle bag if you're away for a day or two. Opt for a fuss-free aesthetic with a smooth black version - anything that wipes clean is #festivalgoals - with a spacious interior and a detachable shoulder strap. Pack as many T-shirts, vest tops, shorts and boiler suit/jumpsuits/onesies as your luggage will allow. Heavier layers such a hoodie or jacket should be worn rather than packed. Whatever you do, do not forget the heavy-duty lace-up boots!
When it comes to toiletries, dry shampoo, lip balm, a first-aid kit, a mini torch, moisturiser and sunscreen should be in your top ten. Ladies, it goes without saying: hairbands, eyeliner and copious amounts of glitter are your festival allies.
The right thing by going green. More and more festivals have committed to championing sustainability - Latitude Festival, Paléo Festival in Switzerland and Les Vieilles Charrues in France - using 100% green energy to power the festival.
So whether you're at a pool party or a mini rave in a tiki tent, remember that reducing your carbon footprint is the new black.
The kaleidoscopic colours and remote landscapes of Nowhere near Castejon de Monegros in Spain. Nowhere has rightfully been compared to Burning Man - think an army of creatives congregating in the desert to make music and art and perform the occasional aura cleansing. Or, if it's a boutique festival made for cosmic adventurers and creative musicians you're after, then Bulgaria's Meadows in the Mountains is the one for you. With the beguiling Rhodope Mountains as a backdrop, expect river gorges (and plenty of after-hours disco) to be your blissful soundtrack.
Anything nutrient-loaded and compact. As appealing as canned soup and cereal may sound to some, make sure you stack up on plenty of dried fruit, dark chocolate, nut bars and tangerines because they'll come in handy during those 3 am hunger pangs.
On the bright side, festival food has gone gourmet in recent years, so when it comes to what to eat when you're away, do your homework on day one and frequent the food trucks with the freshest supplies - not everything fried or smothered in cheese is your friend - as they're perfect for replenishing after the umpteenth after-party.
