From denim and tailoring to must-have accessories, find out how to wear all the new pieces you’ll need this season
Personal shoppers Christina Abbott and Guga Filho – both based at Bicester Village, one of 11 unique shopping destinations within The Bicester Village Shopping Collection – share their expert take on how to introduce this season’s three key fashion statements into your autumn-winter wardrobe.
TREND 1: DESIRABLE DENIM
“We’re currently seeing a huge move back to denim from some of the biggest designers out there. Today’s denim is dark and very structured, and the fabric has been reinterpreted, elevated into something you can wear as a cocktail dress or at work. With a lot of the new designs, you don’t even realise it’s denim – it looks so impeccable. We’re also seeing denim underfoot – think dark denim shoes with elegant heels. With more and more brands stepping away from exotic animal skins, denim is again having it’s time to shine.”
TREND 2: VERSATILE SUITS
“When it comes to suits it’s important to branch out from just one cut of trouser, so you don’t wear the same silhouette in every outfit. Instead, choose a suit with a masculine jacket, culottes or wide-legged or cropped trousers. Even leather trousers can work for the office – it’s all about styling.
Our mindset towards clothing is much more relaxed now too. A suit doesn’t have to be worn as a suit – instead, see it as an ensemble of separates that can be styled into several different looks. Pair a masculine suit jacket with a chiffon or silk skirt, or wear suit trousers with a relaxed printed T-shirt. With the outfit possibilities it presents, a quality suit is a worthwhile investment.”
TREND 3: SEASONAL ACCESSORIES
“What’s lovely about womenswear is the ability to instantly freshen up a wardrobe with a few standout accessories. Have fun bringing in the shoes of the season, the cross-body bag, the wide belt, the pearl earrings…
Take that black jacket you’ve had for years, belt it, add an amazing brooch, and you’ve a whole new jacket. Accessories are also the perfect excuse to add texture, colour and print – whatever you do, don’t miss this season’s amazing evening bags.”
